Saint Nina orphanage is a project for 135 children who are now hosted by foster families in GACORONE in MARIMANTI, THARAKA NITHI County.
It is a temporary solution, families being supported by a feeding program every Sunday. The women of this community in exchange make beautiful handmade baskets and jewellery. Thanks to the generosity of a local family, 5 ha plot of land was offered to start the construction of a full boarding school for these children.
The challenges are significant given that the land is in a very remote area without water or electricity. People from four villages around this land spend around 4h / day just to bring water from the nearest river located 4 km away from the villages.
The river is drained twice a year and serves the region’s wildlife at the same time. Bringing water (drilling a borehole) would be a blessing for the four surrounding villages, a hope for the community and for the children of the host families. This will allow the construction of the school and the dormitories and a suitable place for the manual labor of the women of the community.
Your support would be much appreciated for one of these projects:
- Water project: the cost of the borehole drilling…
- Construction project: school and dormitories cost of construction:
- Community project: encourage the selling of the homemade baskets and jewelleries and continue the weekly feeding programme (500 euros/600 $ for 250 people four times a month)
